Vaprat iseseisvuspäeva, Ukraina!

Austatud sõbrad Kulikivkast!

 

Arv 24 on kirjutatud meie kahe rahvuse mälusse kolmel erineval moel. Meie, eestlased, saime esimest korda ajaloos oma vaba riigi 24. veebruarikuu päeval 1918. aastal. Teie vaba riik seati samal päeval ohtu – 24. veebruaril 2022. See kaotus on ajutine. Me seisame väikeriigina teie eest, nagu lubas meie president samal kuupäeval peetud kõnes – kaitstes Ukraina vabadust, ukrainlaste enda valitud teed, kaitseme ka seda, mida oleme ise aidanud ukrainlastel üles ehitada. Kaitseme Euroopa Liidu liikmesriikide ja NATO liitlaste ning meie partnerite vabadust otsustada kuidas ja kellega oma elu korraldada.

 

Suure ja tugeva rahvana olete meile viimase poole aasta jooksul tõestanud, et olete võitmatud. Te julgete paluda abi, aga olete kindlasti hinnanud ümber ka oma sõbrad. Loodan, et olete saanud meie väikeselt riigilt abi ja tuge, mida sellises olukorras vajavad isegi Ukraina suurused riigid.

 

Täna, kolmkümmend üks aastat tagasi 24. augustil oli teie riigi pidupäev – Ukraina iseseisvus Nõukogude Liidust. Las see päev olla hoolimata sõjast ja just sõja tõttu ilus ja pidulik päev ka täna.

 

Me anname endast Põlvamaal parima, et teie inimesed tunneksid siin ennast hästi, teie hoidke oma maad ja andke oma rahvale võimalus varsti oma vabale kodumaale naasta.

 

Ilusat pidupäeva ja palju õnne, Ukraina!

Dear friends from Kulikivka!

 

The number 24 is written in the memory of our two nations in three different ways. We, Estonians, for the first time in history, became a Free State on February 24, 1918. The future of your Free State was unjustly put in peril on the same day – February 24, 2022.

 

This horrible situation is temporary. Though a small country, we will stand up for you, as our President promised in his speech on the same date. Defending the freedom of Ukraine, the path chosen by the Ukrainians themselves, we will also defend what we ourselves have helped the Ukrainians to build. We will defend the freedom of the member states of the European Union and NATO allies and of our partners to decide how and with whom to organize their lives.

 

As a large and strong nation, over the past six months you have proved that you are invincible. You have dared to ask for help, but you have certainly reassessed your friends. I hope that you have received the help and support from our small state that even countries the size of Ukraine may need in such a situation.

 

Today, thirty-one years ago, August 24 was the celebratory date for your country – the independence of Ukraine from the Soviet Union. Let this day be a beautiful and festive even now, despite the war and precisely because of the war.

 

Here, in Põlvamaa we will do our best to make your people feel as good as possible here, while you save your country and give your people the opportunity to return to their Free Homeland soon.
